With geul, a studio for long-form writing — novels, essays, scripts — you get chapters, a plot board, and Munu, an AI companion who knows your manuscript. With haru, a daily diary, Siwoo is the companion who reads along and writes letters back. One account, one world: notes, characters, and memory are shared between them.

On your device first — everything is saved to your browser's local database, so writing works even offline. Signing in starts automatic cloud synchronization with the server. Clearing browser storage without syncing or exporting can lose local content, so we recommend enabling sync or exporting regularly.

No — by default the AI just works, with no key and no setup, and usage is metered as credits. If you'd rather use your own key, BYOK (bring your own key) is a free option in advanced settings: plug in a key from an AI provider, the key stays on your device, and the provider bills you directly. You can switch anytime.

You don't pick a model — you pick a thinking level: Fast, Balanced, or Deep. Munu and Siwoo take it from there, and you can change it any time, mid-sentence if you like. If you'd rather bring your own API key, the advanced settings accept keys from Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google.

No. thegeul never uses your writing to train AI models. When you run an AI feature, the relevant content is sent to the provider you chose solely to generate a response — subject to that provider's privacy terms. See our Privacy Policy for details.

The core writing experience is free to start, and the free tier includes a monthly trial allowance of AI credits. Paid plans raise the limits — more manuscripts, larger monthly credits, more cloud storage, and premium features. AI usage is metered against your credit balance. Current plans and prices are shown in the app's upgrade screen (they may vary by country due to taxes and currency).

Text sync across devices is free once you sign in, and export/manual backup is free forever on every tier. For your own storage: manuscript text sync in geul is free and works with Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, WebDAV. haru's full-archive sync — photos and videos included — comes with the one-time haru Full Edition and currently works with Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, WebDAV. External storage stays under your own account and its provider's terms.

Anytime, in book-ready formats: PDF (print layout) and EPUB3 for manuscripts, plus Markdown ZIP for everything including diaries. Your words are never locked in.

Purchases are processed by Paddle (our merchant of record), and you can request a refund within 14 days of a charge. See the Refund Policy at /refunds for the full details and how to request one.

Synced data can be deleted in the app. For account deletion, email support@thegeul.com from your account email — synced content and account data are removed from our servers within 30 days (except records the law requires us to keep, e.g., payment records held by Paddle). Local copies on your devices stay under your control.

The app interface supports 12 languages — including English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Spanish, German, French, and more — and the list keeps growing. You can of course write in any language.
